Facebook Timeline Support

The Change

As lot of users of LinksAlpha.com are already aware of, Facebook is switching over to Timeline layout for all Facebook Pages. This is a mandatory change, and by 30th March 2012, all pages that have not already moved over to Facebook Timeline layout will be automatically transitioned over.

While the change is great, it is a little disruptive for the users of the Publisher service that we offer. One of the issues that was reported ’cause of this change was that posts made by LinksAlpha on Facebook Pages were getting grouped together, and showing up without description, and below the fold.

The Solution

We are happy to announce that this issue has been fixed. Posts made to Facebook Pages with Timeline layout are now showing up as expected.

However, for the publishing to keep working optimally, which includes posts on Facebook showing up with the expected title, link, description, and image, web publishers are required to add Facebook Open Graph Metatags to their web pages.

LinksAlpha has made it super easy for WordPress users to add support for  Facebook Open Graph Metatags. We offer 2 wordpress plugins, either of which once installed and activated, automatically adds the required Facebook Open Graph Metatags onto your web pages. Below are links to the plugin:

  1. Social Discussions – version 5.6.2
  2. Network Publisher – version 5.0

We will highly recommend that you install one of the above plugins to ensure optimal publishing of your content to Facebook Pages. In fact, this change also applies to Facebook Profiles that have Timeline layout.

With this fix being live, we now want you to get back to your regular work of creating awesome posts. Let us know in case you face any further issues.

  1. Thanks for the quick fix. Can you tell me the difference between your two main plugins (Network Publisher vs. Social Discussions? Or send me to a page the discusses the differences?

Your service looks great and I plan on testing it on my sites. Just need some direction on which plugin (or both) would be the best fit for me.

    Much thanks in advance!

    1. Brett,

Core difference between the plugins is that Network Publisher enables publishing of content from WordPress sites to Social Networks. Social Discussions does that too. In addition to that, it adds social sharing buttons to your blog posts, making sharing of content to Facebook, Twitter… easier. As mentioned in the blog post, both plugins add the Facebook Open Graph Metatags, which are very much required for the publishing to work optimally on Facebook Timeline layout.

      1. Hi Vivek,

Thanks for the quick response. Sounds like Social Discussions is the way to go since it has the added features. Great stuff!

      1. It’s set properly. Network Publisher just picks an image from other posts from that specific category. So annoying because we publish political news and when other people’s pics appear on the wrong article, the whole article is seen as a misinformation😦

Is there a fix for this?

  2. Hiya,

I’ve upgraded the Network Publisher plugin in WordPress to version 5.1, but my links in Facebook are still all grouped together under the same ‘LinksAlpha.com’ box, quite down in the page with the new Time Line design.

Do I need to configure something so every link is posted independently and at the top of my facebook timeline?

    Cheers!

      1. Hi, no progress in the ticket yet but the problem is still happening for me. Any idea what could be going on and how that could be fixed?
